#24 Savings Bonds
So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’ Luke 19:13.
This was also an issue of emotional attachment (like #22 & #23). The QoF had a handfull of savings bonds that were given to her by her grandparents. Mine were from a speech contest that I won as a young fella (did I mention I’m available to speak at your event?). So there was a push back from both of us to relinquish these bonds. It seems silly now. First of all, savings bonds are not just bad investments, they are really bad investments. The significance of where or who the bonds came from does not change the quality of the investment. The question became, what are we saving for? We let go early in our DSJ and the cash from selling our savings bonds actually helped fund our original emergency fund.
